Florida psychologist Richard Schulman convicted of elder exploitation of his own father

On August 30, 2007, Sarasota psychologist Richard Schulman was charged with 1st degree felony Exploitation of an Elderly Person or Disabled Adult. That adult was his 85-year-old father, who was suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.
Specifically, Schulman was charged with misappropriating more than $600,000.00 of his father's money for his personal use and not for the benefit of his father.
On May 9, 2011, he was convicted in Circuit Court on the charge and was sentenced to 364 days in jail and two years of community control, followed by one year probation to be supervised by the Florida Department of Corrections.
On February 13, 2012, the Florida Department of Health (DoH) reprimanded Schulman relative to the criminal conviction and imposed a $2,000 fine plus DoH's costs of investigation. He was additionally required to obtain continuing education in the area of ethics, rules and laws.
Lastly, DoH suspended his license until the fine and costs are paid, at which time his license will be placed on probation for one year.
