Florida Psychiatrist Quamrul Chowdhury Suspended after Criminal Charges Involving Minor

April 27, 2026

The Florida Department of Health has taken emergency action against psychiatrist Quamrul Hasan Chowdhury, immediately suspending his medical license following serious criminal allegations. The order states that the Department is legally required to act when a practitioner is arrested for certain offenses involving minors.

According to the findings, Chowdhury was arrested in October 2025 on multiple charges, including attempted lewd and lascivious battery, online solicitation of a minor, and attempted human trafficking of a minor for commercial sexual activity. These alleged acts fall under Florida statutes that mandate swift suspension to protect the public while the criminal case proceeds.

The emergency order means Chowdhury can no longer practice medicine in Florida effective immediately. State officials confirmed that formal disciplinary proceedings are now underway, and the case remains pending in Hillsborough County.
