Cyprus Psychologist Convicted of Sexually Abusing Teenage Patient
June 2, 2026
A court in Limassol, Cyprus—a major port city on the southern coast of the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus—has convicted a psychologist of sexually abusing a teenage patient entrusted to his care. Judges found that the therapist exploited the trust, authority, and influence inherent in the therapeutic relationship to victimize the girl, who was under 18 at the time of the offenses.
The court heard that the teenager sought counseling while dealing with personal and family challenges. Rather than maintaining professional boundaries, the psychologist gradually fostered an inappropriate personal relationship and manipulated the vulnerable patient for his own benefit. Proceedings were conducted in private to protect the victim's identity.
The psychologist was found guilty on multiple charges related to child sexual abuse and sexual exploitation. Following the verdict, the court ordered that he remain in custody pending sentencing. The case serves as another reminder of the serious harm that can occur when mental health professionals abuse positions of trust and authority.
