Court affirms revocation of psychiatrist Leo D'Souza's license

On December 29, 2008, the Court of Common Pleas of Franklin County, Ohio affirmed the May 14, 2008 decision of the State Medical Board of Ohio to revoke the medical license of psychiatrist Leo D'Souza. Dr. D'Souza was indicted by a county grand jury in February 2008 on charges of gross sexual imposition and sexual imposition involving juvenile patients. Court documents state that he repeatedly fondled one boy during at least six office visits. In another case he is accused of examining an eight-year-old for sexually transmitted diseases. State licensing board documents from August 2007 tell of five patients on whom Dr. D'Souza is alleged to have conducted medically unwarranted genital examinations. In September 2007, he entered into an interim agreement with the medical board to have a chaperone present during examinations of minors. Revocation followed a Board examiner's conclusion that "Dr. D'Souza failed to conform to the minimal standard of care, violated the Principles of Medical Ethics, and engaged in sexual misconduct with patients.
