Counselor Crocker Nevin reprimanded for practice beyond scope of license

On November 11, 2011, the Maine Board of Counseling Professionals Licensure formally reprimanded professional counselor Crocker Nevin.

According to the Board’s document, Nevin practiced beyond the legal scope of a professional counselor by performing a psychological evaluation and preparing a report, which included clinical diagnoses of the subject of the evaluation. The evaluation was intended for use in a court proceeding.

Further, Nevin represented himself, through a Yellow Pages ad and elsewhere, as providing other clinical mental health services, all of which are also beyond the legal scope of a professional counselor license (which does not permit the holder to either diagnose or treat mental health disorders).

He was additionally fined $1,500 and will undergo one year of probation during which he will be under practice supervision.
