California disciplines psychiatrist Cecil Bradley

On March 1, 2007 the Medical Board of California ordered disciplinary action on psychiatrist Cecil Bradley's license for unprofessional conduct consisting of: violating or attempting to violate Chapter 5 of the California Medical Practice Act; Gross Negligence; Repeated Negligent Acts, Incompetence and the commission of any act involving dishonesty or corruption which is substantially related to the qualifications, functions, or duties of a physician. Dr. Bradley treated a nurse who was seeking to enter a Board Diversion Program (for substance abusers) due to recent treatment for dependency on pain medications. His treatment of her over two and a half years included prescribing substances for which the patient had a history of abuse; failure to address patient's use of over the counter medications, despite history of abuse; creating antagonism to the patient's diversion program; prescribing a stimulant in absence of a clinical indication and despite history of abuse and prescribing a Schedule II stimulant for a diagnosis of “ADHD” without a documented work up to support the diagnosis and despite history of stimulant abuse. His license was revoked, stayed, and placed on five year's probation with conditions.¹
