Board reprimands and restricts psychiatrist German Laufer following criminal conviction

On April 16, 2011, the New York State Board for Professional Medical Conduct censured and reprimanded psychiatrist German Laufer for professional misconduct.
He was also placed on probation for five years. According to the Board’s Consent Agreement, Laufer is permanently restricted from being the Chairman, Director, Shareholder or Chief Executive Officer of a professional corporation involved in the practice of medicine.
The Board’s Factual Allegations states that on or About July 16, 2009, Laufer was found guilty in the Supreme Court of the State of New York of Criminal Facilitation in the Fourth Degree and was sentenced to, among other things, a one-year conditional discharge.
Laufer was charged in April 2008 with filing false claims for medical tests he never provided to patients, allegedly bilking as much as $20,000 from three different insurance companies.
