Additional murder charges and new sex charges added to case against Georgia psychiatrist
September 7, 2017
A 71-count indictment was issued against psychiatrist Narendra Nagareddy which includes killing six patients, sexual assault by a psychotherapist against a patient and dozens of counts of writing prescriptions that were not legal. This replaces a 62-count indictment in 2016 that included three murder charges.
The psychiatrist entered a not guilty plea to the new charges during an arraignment hearing at Clayton County Superior Court. He is out on bond while he awaits trial.
According to the charges, the patients all overdosed after Nagareddy provided them with highly-addictive medications that were outside the scope of his practice.
In previous coverage, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution found that law enforcement, pharmacists, other doctors, state regulators and addiction counselors had known for years before his arrest that Nagareddy had become a reliable source of prescriptions for drug addicts.
