State revokes psychiatrist's license for prescribing beyond lethal limits of narcotics

March 29, 2006

On March 29, 2006 the Maryland Board of Physicians revoked psychiatrist David W. Bassett's license (#D32444), having found that he violated standards of quality care and failed to keep adequate medical records in regard to a patient who was addicted to prescription/narcotic drugs, including but not limited to prescribing certain drugs above what is generally considered the lethal limit and not performing liver function tests on an ongoing basis to monitor harmful side effects.
