Mexico City Psychologist Maria Alejandra Lafuente Casco Sentenced to 46.5 Years Prison for Murder

September 20, 2022

Eight years after allegations arose that psychologist María Alejandra Lafuente Casco dismembered her husband with an electric saw and scattered his body parts around Mexico City, she was convicted in a court of law.

The prosecution proved Lafuente's guilt in the brutal 2014 incident under Mexican law, and she was sentenced to 46 years and six months in prison for the murder of her husband Allan Carrera Cuellar.

She must also pay for the victim's funeral expenses.

The couple first met in 2011 at Lafuente's practice in Mexico City, where Carrera was taking his son. Shortly after, they began dating.

Problems began in 2014 when the woman suspected that Carrera was unfaithful. Investigators claimed that Lafuente devised a detailed plan to murder him, as she gave the man sleeping drugs.

The psychologist used an electric saw to dismember her partner and then kept the body parts in the refrigerator at home. The plan was to slowly take the bags out and dump them in different parts of the city, but the smell of the bags alarmed others who reported their concerns to police.

Initially, the man's limbless torso was found in the garbage on a corner in the Roma neighborhood.

Later, the upper and lower extremities, without hands and feet, were found in plastic bags in the Valle Escondido neighborhood. The body was identified by his relatives.

The police raided the house where the couple lived, where they found the head and hands in plastic bags, as well as the electric saw with which the murder was carried out.

Initially, the woman had declared herself as a witness, but investigators became suspicious and discovered that she was responsible for sending the text messages from the husband's phone so that the family would think he was still alive.

Taking advantage of her professional influences, the woman managed to get herself admitted to a psychiatric institute as a patient, but still could not avoid conviction.
