Michigan psychologist sentenced to prison for fraud

November 29, 2017

George E. Compton Jr., a 63-year-old psychologist in Michigan, was sentenced to 28 months in prison after pleading guilty to a healthcare fraud scheme he ran from 2013 to 2016.

According to the US Attorney's Office, Compton regularly billed his patients' health insurers for counseling sessions that “grossly exceeded” the number of sessions the patients actually attended.

Over the course of the scam, Compton received more than $800,000 in fraudulent insurance payment.
