New York psychiatrist pleads guilty to illegally distributing a controlled substance

Clifford Jacobson, a psychiatrist in New York, faces five years in prison and a $250,000 fine after pleading guilty to illegaly distributing a controlled substance.   

From 2014 to 2017, Jacobson sold prescirptions for Schedule IV controlled substances to undercover agents and patients who had no medical necessity for the drug.  He charged $120 for each illegal prescription.  

He has been discplined three times by the state Department of Health.  He was put on probation in 2002 after pleading guilty to mail fraud, he was put on probation again in 2013 for negligence and in 2017 he was ordered to surrender his license due to practicing with negligence.

His sentencing is scheduled for January 23, 2018.
