Ohio Psychological Association psychologist arrested for exposing himself

January 17, 2014

DAYTON, Ohio - 2 NEWS has learned that the Centerville man accused of public indecency works in the mental health field.

WDTN.com first told you Tuesday about Joshua Shuman.  He was arrested after two accusations that he exposed himself to shoppers in the parking lot of Cross Pointe Center in Centerville.

Centerville police said Shuman would ask shoppers to come over to his vehicle where he would be caught in a "lewd" act.

Court documents showed he did the same back in March 2013.

2 News found that Shuman works as an active psychologist at the Dayton VA Medical Center. He is listed on their website working in the field of mental and behavioral health.

A spokesperson for the Dayton VA Medical Center told 2 NEWS Shuman has since been removed from patient care pending the outcome of the investigation.

In an official statement to 2 NEWS, VA officials said, “There is an ongoing investigation of alleged misconduct of a Dayton VA Medical Center employee while he was in an off-duty status. When we were alerted of the charges by local authorities, he was immediately removed from patient care. Veterans with concerns about receiving the appropriate treatment can be evaluated by a different provider for a second opinion.  Veterans with concerns should contact their Primary Care Provider for assistance.  As always, our priority is to provide our Veterans with a safe and exceptional health care environment.”

Shuman is also listed on the board of directors for the Ohio Psychological Association.

Shuman has pleaded not guilty to both incidents. He will be back in court February 6.
