State denies reinstratement of psychiatrist Mohammed Soori's license

November 21, 2013

On July 23, 2013, the Virginia Board of Medicine denied the license reinstatement petition of psychiatrist Mohammed K.B. Soori.

The state summarily suspended Soori’s license in January 2009 based on, among other things, information that Soori engaged in a “personal and sexual relationship” with two patients and “conduct of a sexual nature that was lewd and offensive” with another patient; prescribed large quantities of narcotic pain medications and other controlled substances to four patients without medical justification and without performing or documenting a physical examination.

The denial of reinstatement was based on the fact that Soori continued to treat a patient after the summary suspension. The patient’s medical record shows that he was providing the patient psychotherapy services as late as May 2012.

The record further states that he used marijuana and cocaine with the patient during treatment sessions at his condominium, in addition to engaging in sex with the patient.
