Psychiatrist Jeffrey I. Schwartz surrenders license following criminal charges, stand-off

October 11, 2013

On July 2, 2013, the Medical Board of California issued an Accusation against psychiatrist Jeffrey I. Schwartz.

The document states that in August 2012, Schwartz was arrested and charged with felony child endangerment, resisting an officer and prescribing for self-use.

He subsequently was involved in a six-hour stand-off with authorities who attempted to talk him down from an ocean cliff.

Schwartz was seriously injured after a fall or jump from the cliff and was thereafter involuntarily detained under the state’s mental health act.

He thereafter, according to his attorney, was unable to submit to an interview with the Board due to health problems and in June 2013 surrendered his license.
