Psych nurse struck off for showing up drunk to work

August 19, 2013

A NURSE caring for vulnerable patients has been struck off after she turned up for work drunk.

Margarita Marshall was intoxicated for shifts in February 2011 while working as a mental health nurse.

During that time, working for the North Essex Partnership NHS Trust, she verbally abused staff and patients, leaving one patient “visibly upset”.

She was also found guilty of failing to record giving anti-psychotic medication to a patient, and in January 2012 of giving an unprescribed a sleeping pill to a patient she said “was like an animal” while working at the Aspen Grange Care Home, Braintree.

Marshall was struck off by a conduct and competence committee of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, after already facing internal disciplinary hearings at both places of work.
