Maine psychiatrist suspended for non-compliance, substance abuse

September 19, 2006

The Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine summarily suspended psychiatrist Sarah E. Babine's license after reviewing information demonstrating that Dr. Babine was not in compliance with a Board Order issued in July 2006, which found her guilty of unprofessional conduct for failure to fully comply with an examination ordered by the Board. In addition, the Board found at that time that Dr. Babine engaged in habitual substance abuse. Dr. Babine was reprimanded, mandated to participate in a substance abuse monitoring program, ordered to undergo a substance abuse/psychological evaluation, and, based on the outcome of the evaluation, participate in Board-approved counseling. The Board determined that Dr. Babine's failure to comply with the conditions of the Board Order represents an imminent danger to the public.
