Pennsylvania psychologist Len Ochs indefinitely suspended

July 11, 2013

In March 2013, the Pennsylvania Department of State reported in its monthly disciplinary action report that it has indefinitely suspended the license of psychologist Len Ochs “until such time as his license to practice in the state of California is unrestricted, non-probationary status.” Ochs surrendered his license to the California Board of Psychology In April 2010, after the California Board put him on probation by the state in December 2009 for having practiced psychology on a lapsed license; Ochs allowed his license to expire in 2004 and continued to practice but did not renew it again until 2006.

Over the 18 years or so since I have known him, Len Ochs has been a responsible and caring clinician, as well as a well-respected trainer in the field of neurofeedback. Dr. Ochs was featured in my book
The Healing Power of Neurofeedback, and my overall perspective on his contribution was very positive.
I do know that he acknowledged suffering from the sequellae of Lyme disease, and do not know whether or not that affected his judgement in continuing or allowing his license as a psychologist to lapse. In the field of Neurofeedback, and as an innovator of healing methods, he continues to be highly regarded. Neurofeedback, and Biofeedback are not regarded as licensable disciplines, but in general, national certifying organizations such as the BCIA (Biofeedback certification international alliance) recommend that practitioners be licensed in their state to offer treatment of any kind to the public. As far as I know, Dr. Ochs has left actual neurofeedback treatment to his wife, Cathy, who is a licensed nurse (RN) and to his staff, whose credentials I know nothing about.

The real criminals are the state boards who for political reasons turn administrative problems into criminal issues. Some idiot and I had a political disagreement; a lawyer she saw sided with me but she nailed me on a technicality. Screw the psych boards and their enforcement of idiocy.
