Iowa board issues charge against psychiatrist Sergio Paradiso for sexual misconduct

July 12, 2012

On July 12, 2012, the Iowa Board of Medicine filed formal disciplinary charges against psychiatrist Sergio Paradiso, charging him with engaging in sexual misconduct and unprofessional conduct. The Board alleges that Paradiso engaged in a sexual relationship with a female psychiatric patient he was treating in early 2010. The Board also alleges that Paradiso encouraged the patient to consume alcohol even though he knew she had a history of alcohol abuse; met with and contacted the patient by telephone and e-mail outside the treatment setting on numerous occasions and inappropriately gave the patient gifts.
