Mental health counselor Denise Flint reprimanded for custody recommendation

July 19, 2012

On December 19, 2011, the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker & Marriage and Family Therapist Board reprimanded professional clinical counselor Denise M. Flint.

The Board’s document states that on August 11, 2011, while employed in private practice, Flint “wrote a letter to the attorney for the father [presumably of a minor client she was counseling] making a recommendation regarding custody [which was conduct] outside her role as treating therapist. Flint also tried to withhold the minor child’s records from the mother without showing the appropriate rationale and without documenting the rationale on record.”

The Board ordered Flint to obtain additional continuing education on the subject of child custody and ethics at her own expense.
