In February 2006, the Arizona Medical Board revoked psychiatrist John C. Woods' license for professional misconduct. He was found to have prescribed controlled substances to members of his immediate family and to have committed a felony. On August 16, 2005, Woods was arrested by county deputies and charged with four counts of aggravated assault, one count of kidnapping, one count of disorderly conduct, two counts of weapons charges, one count of criminal damage, two counts of discharge of a weapon at a structure, and three counts of endangerment. According to a Sheriff's Office report, during a fight with his wife, Woods hit her in the face with a handgun and also fired shots at her. Deputies found 50 firearms in Woods' home at the time of the arrest. In November 2004 one of Woods' neighbors obtained an order of protection against him. The order prohibited him from possessing, receiving or purchasing firearms or ammunition. During an interview, Woods' wife stated that he had prescribed medicine for her that he was taking himself. She obtained an order of protection against her husband.
