Michigan Psychologist William Kooistra Charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct by Psychotherapist

GRAND HAVEN, MI – A Grand Haven psychologist has been charged with fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, police said.

Dr. William Kooistra, 57, of was arrested by Grand Haven police on Wednesday, March 11, then arraigned in Grand Haven District Court, public safety Director Jeff Hawke said in a statement.

The charge – fourth-degree criminal-sexual conduct by a mental-health professional -- is a high-court misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison upon conviction.

Kooistra was released on a personal-recognizance bond after his initial court appearance. Hawke said the arrest came after a lengthy investigation related to his work as a clinical psychologist.

Kooistra did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
