Los Angeles Psychiatrist Karl Bandyan Ordered to Stop Practicing

October 23, 2018

This letter is inform you that on October 12, 2018, the Medical Board of California issued a Cease Practice Order on Los Angeles psychiatrist Karl Bandyan for his failure to comply with conditions of probation that Board placed on his license in December 2017.

Dr. Bandyan failed to obey the Board’s condition which required him to enroll in and successfully complete a clinical competence assessment program. This is the second such Cease Practice Order that Board has issued for this reason, the first one having been issued March 9, 2018. It is not clear what occurred between the first and second Cease Practice Orders.

The basis of the earlier disciplinary action was a September 15, 2017 Board Accusation which found that Dr. Bandyan had been prescribing excessive amounts of addictive controlled substances to himself and to family members using a false name (“Karen Bandyan”).
