Virginia board suspends social worker Derek R. Findlay

February 6, 2013

On September 14, 2012, the Virginia Board of Social Work issued and Order of Summary Suspension on licensed clinical social worker Derek R. Findlay. The Board’s document states that the Board received information that Findlay “may have violated certain laws and regulations related to the practice of clinical social work.” The Order references an attached statement of particulars which was not however attached to the Order. In March 2012, the Board reprimanded Findlay because he billed clients and their insurance carriers improperly for counseling services. Specifically, he billed one client for two sessions on different days when in fact the client had attended an extended session on one day; billed a client couple for counseling sessions when the couple had cancelled the sessions and billed another client for an in-office counseling appointment when in fact the client was ill and could not attend the session, among other things.
