January 8, 2008 Maine psychiatrist Takeo Kawamura surrenders license following complaints, patient suicide |
|
On January 8, 2008, Maine psychiatrist Takeo Kawamura permanently surrendered his license to the state Board of Licensure in Medicine following complaints of incompetence and unprofessional conduct, including medication mismanagement and failing to competently treat another patient who ultimately committed suicide. In a public document obtained from the medical licensing board, Dr. Kawamura conceded that the board had sufficient evidence to "reasonably conclude" he failed to adequately monitor the medical care and medications of two patients, behavior that "could amount to incompetence and unprofessional conduct, and constitutes grounds for discipline of his Maine license."1 1 Meg Haskell, “Bangor doctor relinquishes license; Psychiatrist Kawamura focus of misconduct allegations,” Bangor Daily News, 15 Jan. 2008. |
