December 2007 Canadian psychiatrist James Hanley loses license in second province |
|
In early December 2007, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick revoked psychiatrist James Hanley's license. Dr. Hanley admitted to having a sexual relationship with a patient who he had treated for 17 years. That patient brought a complaint against him to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador, alleging that Hanley took advantage of her during a vulnerable period in 2003. The College in that province revoked his license earlier this year.1 1 “Licence stripped from CFB Gagetown psychiatrist,” CBC News, 4 Dec. 2007 and “Had sex with patient, psychiatrist's license revoked,” CBC News, 16 Mar. 2007. |
